Why doesn't Whacker fly around Woodside with all the other native birds? Well, unfortunately, as a fledgling or baby galah, he fell out of his nesting tree before he was old enough to fly. Such is life.

That day, however, a teenage Farm Boy named Nathan came along and rescued him. Nathan placed the frightened little bird onto the top of a seed bag and took him home on his push bike at the end of the day. So that is how this young galah became Whacker of Woodside.

Aviarian experts say that once a wild bird has lived in captivity and been treated like a pet, its future survival cannot be guaranteed if returned to the natural environment. So Whacker must stay put at home permanently. But that's all right with Me. Only ever found in Australia, galahs are not migratory birds anyway and actually prefer to remain within a ten kilometre radius of their original nesting tree.
